Wigan Athletic have taken up the option on David Perkins' contract, meaning he will stay at the club until 2017.
The 33-year-old midfielder joined in the summer after his release by Blackpool and has played every minute of the Latics' League One campaign.
He has played for eight Football League clubs after starting at Morecambe.
"We knew what we were getting with 'Perks', so it's no surprise really that he has done so well," boss Gary Caldwell told the club website.
"Everyone can see what he gives us on the pitch, he's the sort of player that every team needs and typical of the man, there are no airs and graces, he just gets on with his job day in day out and gives us great consistency."
