FA Cup: Eastleigh boss Chris Todd expectant ahead of Crewe tie

Eastleigh manager Chris Todd believes his side can continue to make big strides in their first-ever competitive match against a Football League side.

The Spitfires, seventh in the National League, reached the FA Cup second round last season and travel to League One Crewe in this season's first round.

Todd, who took permanent charge of Eastleigh last month, is expectant.

"We're confident, there's players in our dressing room who've played in League One," he told BBC South Today.

"We're looking at it as another game," he added. "It has to be like that, even though it's against a League One side.

"If we perform well, we can be a match for anyone."

Todd has overseen a run of five wins in seven games since he was initially appointed caretaker manager at the end of September.

The former Torquay and Exeter defender has guided his side to within a point of the play-off places.

"We feel we're coming on leaps and bounds as a club in the last three or four seasons," he said. "Over the last eight or nine months, we've really gained a lot of fans. We're starting to grow now and are really becoming a proper football club."
