Grimsby recovered from conceding an early goal against Welling to remain in the National League's top four.
Sam Corne headed in Ben Jefford's cross to give the visitors the lead after just six minutes at Blundell Park.
But the Mariners responded quickly and went ahead through Nathan Arnold's volley and Conor Townsend's free-kick.
After a frenetic start, the pace then slowed before Jack Mackreth sealed victory in injury time by finishing off a swift Grimsby attack.
Grimsby Town manager Paul Hurst told BBC Radio Humberside:
"I thought it was a good game. First-half I thought at times we were excellent.
"We started the game extremely well and then found ourselves a goal behind, but managed to get a very quick response and then got ourselves in front.
"Realistically, I think we were pretty comfortable, but as a manager and as a fan, it can get a little bit edgy and you just worry about them getting that equaliser.
"Overall, I want the bar to be raised and I've said this to the players that maybe seasons gone by for some of them an okay performance might keep you in the team. But if I feel it's right to change then I will."
