Barrow ended a four-game losing streak as they brushed aside lowly Torquay.
Otis Khan gave the home side an early lead as he shot in to the top corner before Andy Haworth hit the crossbar.
Khan fired the ball home from Howorth's pass to double the lead before the Gulls were reduced to 10 men when Nathan Smith was sent off for a professional foul on Jason Walker.
Walker headed a third before Howarth's injury-time goal sealed Barrow's biggest win since October 2014.
The result saw Barrow move up to 15th place in the National League while Torquay, who have won just once in the last 18 games, are fourth from bottom.
