Crewe Alexandra: Steve Davis questions Daniel Nizic 'mentality'

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says goalkeeper Daniel Nizic should have learned from Ben Garratt's sending off after their 1-0 FA Cup first-round defeat by National League Eastleigh.

After Garrat's red card for tripping Yemi Odubade outside the box, Nizic rushed out before bringing down Ross Lafayette to concede the vital penalty.

"You have to question the mentality a bit," Davis told BBC Radio Stoke.

"He's just watched Ben do exactly the same thing and then he's followed it."

Australian Nizic, 20, is with the Alex on loan from Burnley for a month and made his senior debut when he came on following Garrett's 64th-minute dismissal.

"It's his first game and he's been eager to get on the pitch and take his chance," added Davis.

"I don't know why he's not learnt from Ben - he almost got sent off himself.

"When he came out he got it wrong and he caught the lad. I like my goalkeepers to be in the right position to read that and get there first - or stay on the line."
