Manchester United are watching Porto winger Yacine Brahimi with a view to making a £43m move for the Algerian, according to the Portuguese paper Record.
Manager Louis van Gaal has recently talked of a lack of width in his side, something that has been exacerbated by the injury suffered by Antonio Valencia.
The Ecuadorian has now had an operation on the foot he damaged during the game with Manchester City on 25 October.
The club confirmed on Wednesday that the surgery had taken place.
Meanwhile, Morgan Schneiderlin, 26, has apparently surprised staff at Old Trafford by personally replying to all the fan mail he receives.
According to the Sun, the French midfielder gets dozens of letters a week from fans across the globe but, instead of asking office staff to reply on his behalf, he takes them home so he can do so himself.
"That's brilliant and shows how humble he is," a United spokesman is quoted as saying.
