Port Vale 3-2 Chesterfield

Port Vale recorded a third straight League One victory as they won for the second time in less than 48 hours.

Vale's Sam Kelly's low right-foot shot from 14 yards sparked an early rush of three goals in five minutes.

Chesterfield levelled when Vale old boy Sam Morsy set up Lee Novak to side-foot home a 10-yard volley, before AJ Leitch-Smith restored Vale's lead.

Louis Dodds made it 3-1 from 15 yards before Spireites substitute Rai Simons' consolation effort on 90 minutes.

His shot flew into the top left-hand corner of Vale substitute keeper Chris Neal's net, but the home side saw out the three minutes of injury time.

Neal had come on as a 81st-minute sub for Jak Alnwick, who picked up a late injury on a Vale Park pitch half covered with snow.

Vale's victory, which lifts them to 12th in League One, backed up their FA Cup first round replay win at Maidenhead on Thursday.
