Bury 1-2 Scunthorpe United

Luke Williams (left) scored on his eighth appearance for Scunthorpe this season

Luke Williams' first goal of the season earned Scunthorpe a battling late win at Bury.

Scunthorpe's Paddy Madden scored a penalty, his 13th goal this season, after Peter Clarke fouled Williams.

Shakers striker Leon Clarke turned home Joe Riley's cross for his 12th of the season for the equaliser.

Clarke had chances to give the hosts the lead before former Middlesbrough forward Williams, who joined in July, won the game with a 30-yard free-kick.

Scunthorpe United manager Mark Robins told BBC Radio Humberside:

"It was a great free-kick. We moved the ball really well and I thought we found Luke Williams regularly. I thought he was outstanding. He's been involved in everything good that we've done.

"We spoke about not having gaps but then we got carried away. We were so good in the first 15 minutes or so and I think we thought we could score at will. But then you give the ball away and then you've got to defend. The game was really stretched from an early stage.

"It was a decent game and there was some real quality in it."
