National League leaders Cheltenham Town claimed a comfortable victory at Aldershot to stay top of the table.

The visitors took the lead early on as Harry Pell's free-kick deflected past Shots keeper Phil Smith and in.

Jack Munns doubled the advantage with a whipped in free-kick from the left that bounced into the top corner.

The home side offered little going forward throughout, while Andrija Novakovich struck the post for the visitors late on.

Aldershot Town boss Barry Smith told BBC Surrey:

"We started off the game with great tempo and we created chances.

"The same as previous weeks, we haven't taken the chances and then concede a goal via deflection and it shows the luck we are having at the moment.

"There is not much you can do about the goals, but prior to them we can do more. We had the most chances today and we keep saying when we're on top we must take chances, and in time we will.

"Confidence needs to come from everyone. We are going through a lean spell but we will play ourselves through it."

Cheltenham Town boss Gary Johnson told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:

"It was a very good win, they're not bad - Aldershot - and I've been saying that to the boys and we knew they'd have a couple of opportunities because they've got some quick players.

"We defended well - we had to - we scored two goals from set plays and if you're going to win it with set plays then great. I'm pleased for Pelly (Harry Pell) - he's making a living out of bad strikes at the minute.

"I'm really happy with 2-0. I thought we saw the game out really well and I thought our two new players (Ryan Jennings and Andrija Novakovich) looked like they're going to be very, very good players for us."
