Hearts are close to securing Belgian midfielder Arnaud Djoum on a longer-term contract, according to head coach Robbie Neilson.

The 26-year-old, whose current deal ends in January, has scored three goals in six appearances after leaving Lech Poznan in September.

"We are pretty close," Neilson said. "Everything has been agreed and we just need to sign the paperwork.

"We are hoping for an 18-month (contract), but it's not signed yet."

After several months without a club following his exit from Turkish outfit Akhisarspor, Djoum only made three appearances in his five months with Lech as they won the Polish title.

His goals for Hearts have led to speculation that other clubs could be looking at the Belgian, but the midfielder has said he is seeking stability and would like to extend his stay at Tynecastle.

But Neilson stressed: "You know what football is like - you never know until it's done and dusted.

"But he's happy and we are happy."
