Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Sam Hutchinson has admitted he needs to cut out "stupid tackles" that have seen him pick up 10 yellow cards this season.
The 26-year-old has missed the last two matches through suspension.
The former Chelsea man is back in contention for their League Cup quarter-final at Stoke on Tuesday.
"I think I need to grow up a little bit because some of the tackles have been stupid and I need to try and curb it," he told BBC Radio Sheffield.
"I think I can change it. I'm obviously learning the position because for 17 years at Chelsea I was a right-back or a centre-back, but the last three bookings were rash.
"Everyone has backed me, but it is for me to change."
Hutchinson scored as the Owls beat Arsenal 3-0 in the last round of the League Cup and he believes the players can rise to the occasion again when they meet the Potters.
"It would have been nice if we'd been at home, but we'll go away and the travelling support is always good," he added.
"The days of Stoke going long are gone now. I think they're a very good team and it'll be a challenge but we are really looking forward to it.
"We'll come out and play our game but it all depends on them really."
