Napoli missed the chance to go top of Serie A after losing for the first time since August despite a strong fightback at struggling Bologna.
The hosts raced into a 2-0 lead in the opening 21 minutes after goals by former Roma striker Mattia Destro and defender Luca Rossettini.
Destro made it 3-0 before Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain scored two goals in the last three minutes.
Inter Milan remain top of the table after a 1-0 win over Genoa on Saturday.
The one consolation for Napoli, chasing a first Serie A title since 1990, was Higuain's two goals.
It takes the 27-year-old former Real Madrid striker's tally for the season to 14 league goals, and five in his last three appearances.
Napoli's next Serie A game is at home to title rivals Roma on 13 December.
Bologna's first win since 7 November lifted them out of the relegation zone.
