Huddersfield Town 2-0 Rotherham United

Ishmael Miller
Ishmael Miller took advantage of a lack of Rotherham defenders to make it 2-0

Huddersfield beat Rotherham to move further away from the Championship relegation zone and leave the Millers four points from safety.

Mustapha Carayol gave the Terriers the lead with a fantastic 25-yard effort that swerved past keeper Lee Camp.

And Ishmael Miller, a half-time substitute for Nahki Wells, raced away from the halfway line to seal the game.

It was a second win in five games for Terriers boss David Wagner, whose side move up to 19th in the table.

Huddersfield are three points clear of the bottom three and have a goal difference superior to all the teams below them.

Rotherham were awful in the first half and deserved to trail to Carayol's strike from distance.

They improved after the break and should have levelled when Grant Ward picked out Joe Newell, who found some space but shot at Jed Steer's feet.

The visitors were still pressing for a leveller when Miller ran almost 50 yards through on goal to put the game beyond them.

Rotherham had a chance to pull one back moments later when Luke Hyam had an open goal but hit the post.

The visitors have now lost eight of their 11 games since Neil Redfearn replaced Steve Evans as manager.

Huddersfield head coach David Wagner:

"In the end the result was fair.

"For me at the moment the table is not the most important thing, the most important thing is what the guys try to bring onto the pitch.

"To win a derby is always something which makes you satisfied. Not only did we win this game but we showed a very good performance."

Rotherham manager Neil Redfearn:

"The first half was shocking, we were a yard off the pace. It took a rollicking at half-time for them to come out and show some spirit - that should never happen.

"They have got to apply themselves far better. There's no excuse for them to go out and perform like that.

"For me to have to go in at half-time and rollick them is a condemnation of them as professional footballers.

"If they give me absolutely everything and they're just short, I'll protect them all day long. But I cant forgive that, it wasn't good enough."
