Brentford 4-2 Huddersfield Town

Alan Judge scores a second goal from a penalty
Alan Judge restored Brentford's three-goal lead with a second-half penalty

Brentford moved to within two points of the Championship play-off places with an entertaining victory against Huddersfield at Griffin Park.

Dean Smith saw his side go 3-0 ahead by half-time through goals from Sergi Canos, Lasse Vibe and Alan Judge.

Huddersfield pulled a goal back after the break through Joe Lolley before Judge restored a three-goal advantage with his second from the spot.

Kyle Dempsey notched an injury-time consolation for David Wagner's side.

Brentford bounced back from a midweek defeat at Cardiff to record a third consecutive home win, while Huddersfield remain 19th despite wins for sides below them.

Liverpool loanee Canos gave Brentford an early lead, curling home after a delightful, incisive five-man passing move on the edge of the box.

James Tarkowski then sent Vibe free with a perfectly weighted through-ball for the Denmark international to smash an unstoppable drive into the roof of the net from the edge of the box for the second.

Judge made it three on the half hour with a free-kick which nestled in the far corner after passing through the box.

Lolley fired home from close range as the Terriers looked to mount a second-half comeback.

But Brentford capitalised on an error by Ben Chilwell when he bundled over Judge for his penalty.

Nakhi Wells found the outside of the post and then fired wide with 10 minutes remaining before Dempsey gave the scoreline some respectability.

Brentford manager Dean Smith said:

"It was an excellent first half but we started the second sloppy.

"They regained the initiative straight after the break and it changed the look of the game.

"It can be difficult after such an emphatic first half to regain that same level, but in the end you can only get three points and we were good value for them.

"We were excellent in the first half and that's the standard set. If we continue to dominate games like that at home, then we won't go far wrong."

Huddersfield manager David Wagner said:

"In the first half we didn't pass, lost possession of the ball too easily and had no movement.

"It was the worst display I've seen from us. If you play like that, you don't deserve the points.

"The first-half performance was not us. but the second half was completely new."
