Brentford's Alan Judge shoots for goal against Brighton
Midfielder Alan Judge was lively for Brentford but could not add to his 10 goals so far this season

Brighton's winless run stretched to four matches as they had to withstand some strong Brentford pressure to earn a battling point at Griffin Park.

The Seagulls, whose 3-0 loss against Middlesbrough last time out was their first league defeat of the season, were second best for much of the game.

Alan Judge, James Tarkowski and John Swift all sent efforts off target for the Bees in the first period.

And away keeper David Stockdale had to make several late saves to earn a draw.

The pick of Stockdale's saves was a breathtaking diving effort to keep out Tarkowski's header with 12 minutes left.

But he also made fine saves to twice deny the excellent Judge, with a more routine stop from Philipp Hofmann - who should have scored with a free header.

Brighton rarely threatened in the first half, but Jamie Murphy missed a great chance to put them ahead as they seized control for 15 minutes after the resumption.

The hosts dominated thereafter and only Stockdale's heroics prevented the Bees finding a winner which would have taken them in to the Championship play-off places.

Brentford boss Dean Smith:

"I think it speaks volumes that we are not happy at dropping points at home, especially as I thought we were the better team.

"I thought we made them look average at times. We played with a good attitude, intensity and quality and but for the keeper it might have ended differently.

"The fact that Brighton came to us and put an extra man in midfield and a lot of men behind the ball whenever we had it is a credit to us and the way we're playing."

Brighton manager Chris Hughton:

"There are lots of exciting games at Brentford at the moment. They play a brand of football which revolves around a lot of sharp players good on the ball, and they will test any opposition.

"As a team we had to dig deep because Brentford are a good team. When we have needed David Stockdale he has been there and produced for us.

"Midway through we felt Brentford were getting too much possession in midfield but we got to grips with it in the second half and if anything we looked more threatening on the break."
