Colchester United 0-2 Southend United

Kevin Keen's first match as Colchester United manager ended in a Boxing Day defeat by Southend in the Essex derby.

Colchester twice went close in the first half as Darren Ambrose fired just wide and Southend keeper Dan Bentley saved at the feet of Chris Porter.

Southend went ahead when John White fired a first-time volley through a crowd of players past Elliot Parish.

The visitors made it 2-0 when Noel Hunt robbed George Elokobi and found David Mooney, who rounded Parish to score.
