Accrington Stanley's pitch flooded by heavy Boxing Day rain

Accrington Stanley have postponed their home fixture with Carlisle United because of heavy rain.

Parts of the League Two club's pitch are under water, rendering the surface unplayable.

Several other north-west clubs have also had to cancel their Boxing Day fixtures following, while the Met Office has issued a weather warning for parts of western Lancashire.

Accrington posted photos of their pitch on their Twitter account.

"This is the goalmouth at asfc v @officialcufc - under water," Accrington posted on social media

The worst affected area appears to be a corner and a goalmouth - with more rain expected
