Anthony Jeffrey's early strike was enough to help Boreham Wood pick up a hard-fought victory over Braintree.
The forward scored from inside the area after just seven minutes for the struggling hosts, who started the day in the relegation places.
Jeffrey was then twice denied by good saves from keeper Will Norris as Boreham Wood searched for a second.
However, Braintree failed to extend their five-match unbeaten run as Jack Russell saved Mark Phillips' shot.
