Aldershot Town 0-1 Woking

John Goddard's 12th goal of the season earned Woking victory at Aldershot.

Woking grabbed the only goal against the run of play five minutes before the break when Dan Holman's defence-splitting pass allowed Goddard to finish past Shots keeper Phil Smith.

The Cardinals should have made the points safe after that but Joe Quigley shot wide after a defensive error.

And Aldershot almost levelled late on after a melee in the Woking area, but the visitors cleared and held on.

Aldershot Town boss Barry Smith told BBC Surrey:

"We are going over old ground because we did create chances in the first-half and haven't taken them. We got caught on the counter-attack with their goal and we didn't work their keeper enough.

"We have got to get players that are better that are already here but when your on a tight budget, it is difficult. Obviously we would like to bring in other players, just to show there is competition in all places but that is easy said then done.

"At this point in time everyone is sticking together at this club. I am confident in my own ability of making sure they turn around."

Woking boss Garry Hill told BBC Surrey:

"It's a big result and with all local derbies they are big results for the supporters and everybody connected to the football club. It was our day today and I felt we deserved to be in-front at half-time.

"We needed that goal in the first-half as we are a young side and it gave us something to hold on to. We are going into the right way and it's six wins in the last seven and it was great to have a travelling support.

"Everybody had to be stand up and be counted, even more so myself as the manager. You have to work hard and we had to get the people buying into the way we play. Supporters pay their money and we had to put a shift in and we have."
