Blair Alston netted Falkirk's winner before the break

Falkirk beat Dumbarton to move to within three points of Scottish Championship pacesetters Rangers and Hibernian.

Blair Alston's long-range effort gave the Bairns a first-half lead.

John Baird came close to doubling Falkirk's advantage, his two efforts in quick succession blocked by goalkeeper Mark Brown.

But one goal proved to be enough for Peter Houston's side in the push for promotion.
