Irish Premiership: Glenavon 1-1 Warrenpoint Town

Glenavon 1-1 Warrenpoint

Warrenpoint Town ended a run of 13 straight Premiership defeats as they earned a point against fifth-placed Glenavon at Mourneview Park.

Town will probably feel they could have taken all three points as home keeper Jonny Tuffey made great late saves to deny Stephen Murray and Daniel Hughes.

Murray put Warrenpoint after only 21 seconds with Andy Hall's floated free-kick levelling on 55 minutes.

Rhys Marshall also had a last-gasp Glenavon chance only to miskick.

Murray held his nerve to put the visitors ahead in the opening minute after Glenavon defender Kris Lindsay had misjudged a long ball from the Warrenpoint defence.

The Warrenpoint goal-scorer had an opportunity to extend his team's lead in the 11th minute but Tuffey spread himself well to make a good save.

Marshall clipped the Warrenpoint bar with a header three minutes later and as chances came at both ends before the break, Cliftonville-bound Daniel Hughes fired straight at Tuffey with Daniel Kearns going close at the other end.

Glenavon did level 10 minutes after the break as Hall's curling free-kick went all the way to the net.

The home side had most of the possession in the final 30 minutes but Warrenpoint continued to look dangerous as Tuffey needed to make great saves to deny Murray and Hughes before Marshall completely failed to connect with Glenavon's late chance.
