Bolton Wanderers 0-2 Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield midfielder Mustapha Carayol scored his third goal of the season

Huddersfield Town eased their way to a comfortable victory over struggling Bolton Wanderers thanks to goals from Joe Lolley and Mustapha Carayol.

The hosts almost scored the opening goal of the match when midfielder Liam Feeney hit the post from 20 yards out.

Lolley gave the Terriers the lead when he volleyed home after Bolton keeper Ben Amos saved his first effort.

Huddersfield wrapped up three points when Bolton were unable to clear their lines and Carayol tapped home.

The win means Huddersfield moved up a place to 18th in the Championship whereas Bolton remain rooted to the bottom of the table.

Bolton, who had ended a run of 17 games without a win by beating Blackburn on Monday, had the first chance to break the deadlock early on when Feeney hit the post.

Huddersfield had calls for a penalty turned down when Nahki Wells was brought down by Prince-Desir Gouano, after Lolley had played him through on goal.

After the break, Amos pulled off a terrific one-handed save to deny Wells' close-range drive after he was set up by Jamie Paterson.

On an afternoon of few chances for Bolton, it was the visitors who broke the deadlock when Lolley volleyed home from long range for his third goal of the season.

Carayol ensured victory for Huddersfield when he calmly fired home on the rebound after Amos initially saved Wells' close-range shot.

Huddersfield boss David Wagner:

"I think the fans are in euphoria because seven points in this busy period was good. If you are euphoric then sometimes you say something you normally don't say.

"All in all we did a very good job in this period. We scored in each game and we got a clean sheet today so everyone is happy and also satisfied.

"But I said to the lads after the game I don't like anyone thinking this is something special. At the end we only did our job but it did feel good."

Bolton manager Neil Lennon:

"When you are on top and in the position we find ourselves in we have to score. For first 25 minutes we were dominant but you know when you don't score there is fragility there.

"Huddersfield got the break with the goal and we seem to sag psychologically. Zach Clough had two good chances to equalise but scoring goals has been a problem all season. It has cost us again.

"We sent them out there to take the game to Huddersfield. They did that and showed they can be a good side. But then they seemed to lose their way and that comes with confidence."
