Newport County manager John Sheridan believes former players should take up refereeing.

Sheridan says Newport will consider appealing after Medy Elito was sent off in the 2-0 defeat at Barnet.

Elito's red card and the subsequent penalty changed the game according to an aggrieved Sheridan.

"Get ex-players as officials from now on, that's what I think," Sheridan said.

"The referee has changed the game with that decision.

"We were really comfortable and I couldn't see us losing the game."

County are at home to League Two leaders Plymouth Argyle at Rodney Parade on Monday, 28 December.

Sheridan is relishing facing his former club as 20th placed Newport look to end a run of three games without a win.

"The lads are down and with the position we're in we know the importance of getting points," Sheridan said.

"It's a big, tough game but a game we're looking forward to and a test against the league leaders."
