Match ends, Ipswich Town 2, Portsmouth 2.
League Two side Portsmouth forced an FA Cup third round replay against Championship side Ipswich Town as they drew at Portman Road.
Ipswich went ahead after the break when Tommy Oar scored on the rebound after Brett Pitman's effort was saved.
The visitors responded immediately as Kyle Bennett latched onto a fine Marc McNulty cross to fire home.
Conor Chaplin looked to have stolen a Pompey win late on, but Ryan Fraser quickly levelled to set up a replay.
Ipswich went into the tie having failed to win any of their eight previous games in the competition, but were given a boost when Oar gave the Tractor Boys the lead.
However, Bennett levelled straight away and Portsmouth, who lie 46 places below Ipswich in the Football League, took the lead late on from Chaplin's cool finish.
The 2008 Cup winners looked set for round four, but Fraser lofted a deep free-kick into the area which deceived the Portsmouth back line and flew into the net to save Ipswich's blushes.
Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy: "I think they [Portsmouth] probably deserved to win - I thought they were excellent. I was relieved to go in at half-time 0-0 though I did think we were better in the second half.
"It was disappointing to concede almost straight after scoring but it was testimony to my players that we kept going and didn't get beat.
"We were below par but they are one of the better League Two teams and they have a lot of quality."
Portsmouth assistant manager Leam Richardson: "Of course, the result will always be the first and foremost but I thought we gave a very good account of ourselves. There will always be a tinge of disappointment when you go into the final few minutes leading, but it is still a positive result.
"Ipswich are doing very well in their league and they have an excellent manager with some excellent players.
"Like with them, the league is our bread and butter, but we will look forward to a replay, our fans will look forward to a great match at Fratton Park, and it will be good for the club financially."
