Southport agree deal with Phenix after Barnsley release

Mike Phenix had a short loan spell with Macclesfield Town towards the end of last season

Southport have agreed a deal with forward Mike Phenix for the rest of the season after his release by Barnsley.

Phenix has played 22 games for the Sandgrounders since arriving on loan in the summer, scoring three goals.

A club statement said he had "pledged his immediate future" to the club after talks with boss Dino Maamria.

The 26-year-old joined Barnsley from AFC Telford in October 2014, but only made two substitute appearances for the League One club.
