Hull City boss Steve Bruce has said it would be "madness" for them to sell midfielder Tom Huddlestone to Derby.

Huddlestone has been linked with a return to the club where he started.

He has made 23 appearances this season, but only been a substitute in Hull's last four league games.

"I can certainly knock that on the head and I'm sure I'll be doing the same with some other stories while the transfer window is open," Bruce told BBC Radio Humberside.

"Do you think I'm going to sell Tom to Derby? It would be madness to sell to a rival."

The Tigers, who host Cardiff on Wednesday, are currently third in the Championship, one point behind the second-placed Rams.

Bruce does not believe he needs to make many alterations to his squad to boost the club's hopes of an immediate return to the Premier League.

"There's nothing imminent at the moment and we will do out upmost to keep the players we've got," he added.

"I'm very, very happy with what we've got. Everything being equal and the players stay fit and focused then I think we've got an outstanding chance."
