Two second-half goals saw Nathan Jones suffer his first loss as Luton manager at home to Notts County.
In an end-to-end first half Cameron McGeehan should have given the hosts the lead but Roy Carroll got down well to save.
The visitors took the lead midway through the second period when former Magpies defender Alan Sheehan diverted the ball into his own net.
Jon Stead's neat finish sealed a comfortable victory for Notts County.
Luton boss Nathan Jones told BBC Three Counties Radio:
"I thought some of our play in the first half was excellent, but our lack of conversion of the chances we created lost us the game.
"It's about winning games as well as the style of play. We may have played pleasing football to watch, but if we don't win the game then it's all for nothing.
"I don't envisage anything being done transfer-wise now at this time in the window, but the loan market is still there for us if we need it. We are looking now at making sure we are a good side and have a strong number of principles that we stick to."
