MK Dons boss Karl Robinson says recalling George Baldock from loan is "like signing the best right-back".
Baldock, 22, impressed during 35 appearances on loan at League Two promotion hopefuls Oxford.
"The big one from us is to get George Baldock back. I feel like we've signed the best right-back," Robinson told BBC Three Counties Radio.
"That's really going to add to us and we're really looking forward to welcoming him back on Tuesday."
Robinson brought in forwards Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Alex Revell on transfer deadline day to strengthen his side, who sit 20th in the Championship table, one point above the relegation zone and with the lowest scoring record in the division.
Full-back Lee Hodson and striker Simon Church were allowed to leave on loan, while Dale Jennings left by mutual consent - and Robinson did not rule out more business when the loan window opens on 9 February.
"Maybe one or two may go and maybe one might come in. We're just trying to give everybody the opportunity to play," said Robinson.
"I want a real streamlined squad, which is what we did at the back end of last season.
"If we can do that, it gives us a solidarity amongst 18-20 players that really knuckle down and have a right good go towards the end of the season.
"You always need to carry a big squad at the front end of the season because of the cup games and you don't know what may happen. But it becomes a little bit more predictable in relation to knowing how many games you've got left so we can plan a bit better and have a smaller squad."
