Scottish Championship

Livingston 0-0 Hibernian

Hibernian failed to make up ground in the Championship race after failing to break down Livingston in a dire match.

Earlier in the day, leaders Rangers were held at Alloa but Alan Stubbs' side remain eight points behind.

And the visitors were fortunate not to slip further back as Jordan White rattled the crossbar with a second-half shot for the hosts.

Livi substitute Gary Glen was also guilty of squandering a great headed chance late on.

Sleet and snow fell as the contest started and the first half was littered with players slipping and sliding on the treacherous surface.

Hibs were slow to warm up in the icy conditions but should have taken the lead on 20 minutes when a John McGinn cross fell perfectly for Chris Dagnall in front of goal.

However, the striker took a clumsy touch, allowing Darren Cole to make a sliding challenge.

There were to be several more last-ditch tackles from the stubborn hosts and several more poor touches from Dagnall, who had a fresh air swipe at the ball before Anthony Stokes shot wide.

Hibs finished strongly before the interval but Jason Cummings could not apply a finish from close range, with home keeper Marc McCallum managing to flop on the ball.

Early in the second half, Livi survived when David Gray's header from Paul Hanlon's chipped cross was hoofed clear by a defender on the line.

Thereafter, the Edinburgh side continued to hog possession but it was the hosts who created the better openings on their sporadic counter-attacks.

Glen had a shot blocked by Mark Oxley after the Hibs keeper had flapped at a cross and when the ball broke to White his curling effort clipped the face of the crossbar.

And, on 87 minutes, Glen should have done so much better as he ran on to Charlie Telfer's cross completely unmarked only to make a horrible mess of his attempted header on the edge of the six yard box.
