Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis says he has been talking to defender Zoumana Bakayogo about staying on at the club next season.

Former Millwall, Tranmere Rovers and Leicester City left-back Bakayogo, 29, signed a short-term deal in January with the Alex, but Davis is keen to keep him at Gresty Road.

"I had a conversation with him several weeks ago," he told BBC Radio Stoke.

"He's a super lad and he fits into the mould here."

Bakayogo has made 12 appearances so far and scored his first goal against Chesterfield last month.

And despite Crewe's struggle against relegation, Davis sees Bakayogo as a key man.

"He's got a lot of great attributes," he added. "Hopefully we can do something with him and keep him."

Saturday's 3-0 defeat by Gillingham extended the Alex's winless run to seven games, leaving them seven points adrift of safety with 10 matches to go.
