Adam Murray: Mansfield Town manager says contract offers to players will not improve

Mansfield Town have won 17 of their 45 League Two games this season

Mansfield boss Adam Murray says there is no room for players to further negotiate the deals offered to them.

Murray confirmed Mal Benning has signed a new contract, while Jack Thomas, Jamie McGuire and goalkeepers Scott Shearer and Brian Jensen are close.

"I haven't got a gun to my head in terms of 'you want me here so you have to give me this'," said Murray.

"That is not how it works - this is what you are offered, if you don't want it, then it is not a problem."

Murray says a number of players have been offered new contracts, including defender Ryan Tafazolli, who he insists has been offered "a very good deal" to remain.

"They haven't got that long to think because I'm planning for next season already," Murray told BBC Radio Nottingham. "I want the business done really soon. There are only a handful that are thinking about things."

Mansfield sit 13th in League Two after Saturday's 1-0 defeat by Leyton Orient, with one game to go in what has been Murray's first full season in charge.

"I love this team, I love every single one of those players in the dressing room," Murray said. "They have given me everything and I've given them everything this year.

"I built something here overnight that has had a half-decent season. If the worst-case scenario is that I have to do it again, then I'll do it again."
