Grant Hanley: Newcastle United defender ready for Championship battle
Defender Grant Hanley is ready to help Newcastle United adjust to life in the Championship following his move to St James' Park from Blackburn Rovers.
Hanley, 25, left Rovers after nine years and 201 games for the challenge of helping the Magpies win promotion back to the Premier League.
He was relegated from the top tier with Blackburn in May 2012.
"I've played a lot of games in the Championship so I've got a lot of experience in there," Hanley said.
He told BBC Newcastle: "It might come as a surprise to some people, it's a tough league not only the physical side, but mentally.
"The games keep coming so you have to be ready for that."
Newcastle's 52,000-seater St James' Park home is the biggest ground in the division.
The average attendance in their previous spell in the second tier six years ago was 43,384, and Hanley is excited by the prospect of playing in front of large crowds.
"When I came up to look at the stadium I kept having to pinch myself," Hanley added.
"It was surreal, to get an opportunity like this was unbelievable."
