Guernsey FC boss Tony Vance felt his side deserved a point from their opening game of the season at Ramsgate.
The home side scored a late winner from Joe Taylor to win the game 2-1.
Taylor had give Ramsgate a fifth-minute lead and then saw a first-half penalty saved by Chris Tardif, before Dominic Heaume levelled with 15 minutes left.
"We felt this was going to be a tough fixture for us, but looking at the balance of play we had more than enough to get a result against them," he said.
"First half we weren't quite good enough and gave a way a cheap goal," Vance added to BBC Radio Guernsey after the Isthmian League Division One South game.
"It meant we had to work our way back into the game, but in the second half we made some changes to how we approached it with the ball and the players took it on and were excellent."
