Please can anyone explain where these extra 6 confirmed places come from? How does UEFA expect the quality of European Football to improve if they are essentially giving a free pass to teams that are rich already, and buying out the possibility of other leagues producing legitimately competitive teams. Why try to fix the one thing in football that isn't already completely broken?
A step away from the self perceived elite clubs being given automatic entry, regardless of their league finishes. UEFA would have excluded Leicester from the competition in favour of Man Utd or Liverpool if they could have found a way to do it, their problem now is that at least one of Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea will, at present, always fail to qualify...that'll change.
57, it should only be Leicester in it, you know the champions, as in Champions league. its a sham, and teams like Arsenal are happy to cosy along , so long as they get top 4, its a joke, and is only gonna get worse
Who did Man United get in their group?Oh wait...That's right, they just aren't good enough to qualify anymore.
47, im with you on this. if you win your league you should be straight in, it is supposed to be a union of football associations after all. but a league winner has to qualify , whereas, a team that could hypothetically finish 20 points behind winners get straight in, because they play in a "big" league. it should be in front of the competitions commission, but football is finished., money daft !!
What an absolute sham, further corrupting the trophy and what it stands for. why not let top 4 leagues have a super league of 16 teams and let other champions play for the european champions trophy instead of having them play numerous rounds just to get in, which is so biased it is staggering, although not surprising as money rules all in football nowadays
Another step in the direction of what to me is an almost inevitable European Super League. This move is going to significantly damage the competition, meaning its 16 places for the top 4 and 16 for everyone else. Given that Europe has something like 52 champions each season it means it will be a competition containing at most only 20 of them.
I suppose "Champions, Runners-up & Also-rans League" doesn't quite have the same ring to it.
A "scorched Earth" policy by those who know they will have no future in a Cerefin-led UEFA?Someone really needs to buy UEFA a dictionary, so that they can learn what the word "champion" actually means...
You know maybe we should be putting more effort into fixing the HYS issue, the topic is irrelevant. Few are seeing it
