Exeter striker Robbie Simpson hopes he can build a successful partnership with new signing Reuben Reid.

Former Plymouth striker Reid joined Exeter this week and could make his debut in Saturday's Devon derby.

The pair spent 18 months as teammates at Oldham between January 2011 and the summer of 2012, but did not play up front together.

"Throughout our time there we were always saying 'we wish it was us two up front," Simpson told BBC Sport.

"The first game I signed Reuben got quite a bad injury and was out for quite a while and I played up front with Shefki Kuqi for that time.

"When Reuben came back I went out to the right wing and Shefki and Reuben played up front, so we never actually played as a partnership.

"Hopefully the manager gives us a chance and hopefully we can make it a fruitful one like we thought it could have been at Oldham."
