Boro's gain is Leeds loss. Think Leeds may regret not being able to reach a deal with Monk. They had their best finish in many seasons under him.
Great appointment by Boro. Monk did an excellent job at Leeds last season. My advice to Boro fans and Gibson is to not expect promotion at the first attempt. Get behind him and let him build a legacy. Something Leeds' new owner failed to understand. As a Norwich fan, I'm really looking forward to next season. Should be a good one.

32. The Real Labour Left.Trying to work out exactly why you are having a go? Clearly you have missed my point. I AM a Boro supporter who supported them in Div 3, saw a 0-0 draw after a 22 hr round trip to Plymouth and was there at Hartlepool in '86 and a long time before that. My point was that the clown who called Boro a failure has missed theire recent successes. Get it right please!
Wouldn't it be nice if the Boro comfortably did the double over "Dirty Leeds"?

Good luck to him, Middlesborough were quite some way off being a Prem team last seaosn, but they may have enough to come back up if they keep most their squad and maybe add a little. Gary would have more experience in the Championship now, but he didnt do well end of the season when Leeds should have made the playoffs. If he comes up he has some Prem experience so I can see why they chose him.
@81 Krusty the clownHeadline reads as follows. "Garry Monk: Middlesbrough name ex-Leeds United boss as manager" It might, just might be a good idea to read the article before commenting.Specsavers much?
"Middlesborough appoint Monk as manager"When I saw the headline I thought Boro had hired the Dalai Llama or a Friar Tuck type! They do need divine intervention if they are to get straight back up - Monk is a little lightweight.
Have to laugh at the comments about Huddersfield Town 'buying' a place in the Premier League, you couldn't make it up Dean Hoyle runs a very tight ship at Huddersfield and has slowly resurrected the club over the last decade. David Wagner had one of the smallest championship budgets last season, but used his knowledge/connections to make some very astute loan signings. Good luck to Monk & Boro.UTT
Thought Pearson would have been the ideal choice, was he not intereested? Has a way better track record than Monk. Monk experience comes from being given a free ride at Swansea and a season with Leeds, hardly ideal. Plus Pearson is a boro legend.
Disappointing he didn't stay at Leeds.
Good luck to him, he got a Leeds team with limited ability and no depth into a great position by Christmas, was crying out for 2 or 3 quality signings in January to consolidate top six position and he wasn't given a bean. Team ran out of steam and luck with a month to go. Short-sighted stupidity from the owners of the club and now we have to start all over again. INVESTMENT REQUIRED. MOT.
I hope Boro get promoted to the PL.So we can have Jesus, Moses and a Monk all in it at the same time..........I'll get my coat......
Bloody hell...a sensible decision! Who would've thought...
What no idiotic post from Markbrattrollgeek yet.Could be a very good appointment for Boro, such a hard League to get out of and if you make it even harder to survive in the Premiership.Good luck Garry & Boro.
A good signing and a huge loss for Leeds
Unlucky at Leeds not to reach play offs, his players bottled it in the last few weeks. Got sacked at Swansea like half the struggling PL teams sack their manager. Given time he will turn it round for Boro got to clear out the over paid dross & sign some battle scarred championship players who know how to get out that league. It's a harder league to play in, half the teams can challenge for PL spot
Fattie - nothing like the taste of bitterness for breakfast. Last 20 years Leeds have been just a comatose giant. Monk did a great job for Leeds and that's how you react - no dignity.
