@176.TheGreatKoala: "Rugby? That's the sport with all the biting and the "anything goes" scrums? Great example..."When was the last time you watched rugby? Rules that prioritise player safety, video technology, broadcast collaborative decision-making, sin bins and absolutely zero tolerance of dissent to match officials have transformed it, while footballers still dive, roll, cry and argue.
162. Bird comment absolutely spot onAlthough I have been a fan of RM since 1960 at the age of 14 I believe I am unbiased. Ronaldo is still a top class footballer and divides opinion as a person but like everyone has spells of poor form (around last Christmas for example) and he deserved his 1st booking but the 2nd was a very bad decision, putting a hand on the official was plain stupid!
5 match ban for the shove, or red card plus shove? 5 games seems about right, but could've been more.Brownie points to Messi, headlines to Ronaldo...
Barcelona on their way down real Madrid were the better team by far. I expect Barcelona to make panic buys in the transfer market. Barcelona still a top team but clearly not the force they were 5 years ago. Neymar gone and Messi can't pull Barcelona out trouble for ever. Saying all that still love watching them but they are starting to fade
176.175 is talking about dissent. You can disagree with an official' s opinion/interpretation but take it and walk away. Ronaldo was out of order, he knows it, so does Zidane. Punish dissent by punishing a high profile player in a high profile match. How many times have we seen players screaming in referees faces?
@175 Rugby? That's the sport with all the biting and the "anything goes" scrums? Great example...
He should be banned for longer. No-one is above the match officials. No-one. Without them there is no game. Show disrespect to the officials you should have a lengthy ban. This encourages children and youths to do the same in their local clubs and schools. Not a role-model at all. This is why I watch rugby not football these days..
@173 - Not really, it was a pretty crap dive. He just seemed to lean forward a little and then stumble(which is still a dive)That and the age old "jump up with your back arched and heels as high as possible" are not olympic quality dives :)Plus, the rule is "simulation", NOT "diving". So any time someone does the aforementioned things, even with contact, by ruling it's a booking
22 collymonsterIt takes 22 posts before someone points out the obvious. Ronaldo would win Olympic gold for diving if he entered
It's no big deal for RM really. They are probably a better team without CR and surely they soon have to start giving Asensio more game time.
Suarez dived for the penalty and there was clearly no contact with his dive looking very premeditated, if it were the PL he'd be banned retrospectively.
