well as a supporter of Arsenal since the age of 5 and I am now nearly 55 I must agree with Ian wright that the time has come for AW to go before he becomes the first coach or manager to lead Arsenal outside the top division as clearly he has lost the support of the players and supporters and now we cant get players to extend there contracts as they have lost belief that Arsenal can win the PL
Wenger has been hugely arrogant and blind to his own limited ability. The board are at fault as much as Wenger as they allowed him to dictate his own contract extension and enabled him to have too much power. He managed to play the board for years but can't get some very good players to perform.
@605 Eh? If Ian Wright isn't an expert when it comes to Arsenal then who is?
@603 Dave Ryan"average football team with bang average players."And who's fault is that? Who's had complete control of every signing for the past 18 years? Who's had £100'smillions to spend but wasted it?Who's refused to buy a leader at the back and midfield? Who's refused to buy a goal scorer when they've come available?Yes they're average, but only 1 person at fault for that.
A top manager/coach get's more than the sum of the parts out of his squad. Wenger does the opposite. There are players, and Ramsey is an example, who a proper coach would get a lot better performance from.
Lastly: The Arsenal board should take stock of Arsenal's situation, find a caretaker manager (e.g. Guus Hiddink - who may feel attracted to restoring Arsenal's pride and dignity) to replace AW temporarily and sack AW, and then find a really good manager for longer-term once Arsenal are in a better position to be capable of attracting a better manager.
I mean what happened at Chelsea after Mourinho got sacked and replaced first by Guys Hiddink and then Conte?
AW is allowing his pride, ego and selfishness to rule. That is what Mourinho did at Chelsea before getting sacked, and what happened? Chelsea recovered from danger of relegation and catapulted up to winning the league the following season. Why can't it be like that for Arsenal?!
Ian Wright came from nothing and achieved a great deal at Arsenal. He gave the club so much and as a result his feelings count. Appreciate that Arsenal gave him a lot too but he repaid them in my reckoning. He's a voice of a typical AFC fan
605. John. Can't agree with your opinion of Ian Wright. Played in Champions League, won 2 FA Cups (appeared in 3 finals), won League Cup, won League Title (Double year), won UEFA Cup Winners Cup, player for England (scored9 goals). I'd call all that quite some achievement!
I for one think Wright opinion is worth hearing. As someone who also loves our club through and through and has influence. He to, like many, can see major changes are needed . Ian Wright I wouldn't call an average player. His scoring record and finishing ability were above average only a fool would say that. Sorry John
As I said earlier love AW but he has lost the plot and damaging what he has achieved in the past. Fergie rebuilt his sides many times. Sadly AW built one great side (with already a great base!) And never replaced or rebuilt this proven formula. The best teams today pretty much play the same way we did in early 2000s. AW why did you turn your back on this simple formula. Time to go. Please listen
Apart from being an average player with no management experience what makes Wright an expert apart from the BBC willingness to hire any ex players as experts????????
I can't understand why a good manager is suddenly in the wrong after umpteen years of keeping his club in the top 5 of the premier league - given the obscene amount of money that the players are paid they should be prepared to fight like the devil for every single ball. They are on the pitch, Wingerworth isn't. Time for performance related pay being mandatory.
I think the sad truth here is that Arsenal are just a bang average football team with bang average players. People are riding Wenger about it, but he's been doing an amazing job getting championship quality players finishing in the top half of the Prem. The next manager will end up 10th - 20th with the talent Arsenal has at it's disposal, people need to be more realistic...
As for the opinion of pundits, I always go by something my father said to me, many many years ago .. "those who CAN .... DO and those who CAN'T ... TEACH or TALK ABOUT IT" how true that often is!
Always had a great deal of respect for Mr Wenger, but when a manager in the premier league becomes so self absorbed as to be unable to give any credit whatsoever to the oppositions performance then it really is time to show him the exit before the club itself suffers further embarrassment.
