Match ends, Barnsley 0, Aston Villa 3.
Albert Adomah scored twice as Aston Villa beat Barnsley to earn only their second Championship win of the season.
The 29-year-old capitalised on a poor error by Tykes goalkeeper Adam Davies to tap into an empty net, before doubling Villa's lead from the spot after Keinan Davis was fouled.
Davis made it 3-0 after the break, heading home to spoil Barnsley's 130th anniversary celebrations at Oakwell.
Steve Bruce's side had drawn each of their last three games.
Villa, who move up to 13th in the table, also registered their first win away from Villa Park since March.
They were good value for their victory against a Barnsley side who are 20th after only two victories from their opening seven matches.
Adomah scored twice before half-time, the first under slightly fortuitous circumstances after Davies allowed a long ball forward to slip through his legs and the second a penalty confidently slotted into the top corner.
Davis, lively throughout, confirmed the result just before the hour mark, smartly heading Ahmed Elmohamady's cross into the bottom corner.
Barnsley head coach Paul Heckingbottom: "I thought Villa defended really well. They were very well organised. You could see they'd done a lot of work, but we competed right to the end.
"There were lots of good things, but we weren't a goal threat. There was a bit of belief missing.
"At half-time we knew a third goal would be everything in a game and they got it. Villa put the game to bed and had an easy half hour after that."
Villa boss Steve Bruce said: "We took our chances, that's three clean sheets in a row and unbeaten in six.
"It was a bit of everything. We have a nice mixture of youth and experience and things are coming on nicely.
"We have a nice blend and what we have to do now is put the results together and put a run together, which we are capable of doing. Let's build on this."
