Match ends, Hibernian 2, Motherwell 2.
Louis Moult scored a second-half double as Motherwell came from 2-0 down to earn a point against Hibernian.
Anthony Stokes opened the scoring from the spot after Charles Dunne brought Martin Boyle down in the box.
Stokes doubled Hibs' lead with a cracking outside-of-the-boot finish into the top corner after the break.
Moult reduced the deficit with a back-post header and then drilled a fantastic effort into the bottom corner to earn the visitors a point.
Motherwell have now taken 10 points from their last four games and they sit fifth in the table, with Hibs in sixth.
Referee Barry Cook was at the centre of things early on at Easter Road as both sides had penalty claims turned down.
Stokes looked to have a strong case when he went down under Carl McHugh's challenge, before Well's Richard Tait was shown a yellow card for diving, despite appearing to have been caught by Efe Ambrose.
Cook then did point to the spot and again it was controversial as there looked to be minimal contact from Dunne on Boyle after the latter burst into the area.
Stokes was a vision of composure from the spot, chipping the ball home after goalkeeper Trevor Carson had made his move.
When Stokes signed on at Easter Road for the third time there were some who questioned the wisdom of the decision, given the Republic of Ireland striker only managed a solitary goal for Blackburn Rovers last season. However, his link-up play and ability to sniff out a chances are qualities that are hard to come by and he made it 2-0 after the break.
Stokes' attempted one-two with Brandon Barker broke down just inside the box but when the Well defence failed to clear, Stokes produced a cute finish into the top corner with the outside of his right boot.
The hosts looked to have killed the contest but the visitors had been dangerous and their talisman soon hauled them right back into it.
Moult had nodded a great chance over the bar in the first half and blazed another effort over the bar, but he put those misses behind him as he rose to nod home from Craig Tanner's delivery to the back post.
And he ensured the Steelmen took a point back home from the capital when picked the ball up on the edge on the 18 yard box, took a touch as he turned and then fired the ball into the bottom corner.
The home side may feel this was a case of two points dropped but on the second half performance, Motherwell could argue the same.
