Chester 2-0 Maidenhead United

Marcus Bignot's tenure as Chester manager got off to the perfect start with victory at home to in-form Maidenhead.

There was a hitherto unseen vibrancy about the hosts' performance, after James Akintunde squared for Ryan Astles to open the scoring after just six minutes.

Chester were clearly redoubling their efforts to impress the new boss and Ross Hannah fired just over following further home pressure.

The rejuvenated hosts maintained their intensity after the break as Tom Shaw and Craig Mahon nearly unhinged the Magpies' defence, but neither chance was taken.

Hannah was clearly in the mood, though, clinching victory from the penalty spot in the 73rd minute after a handball by Dean Inman.

In Bignot's first game in charge since being appointed on Wednesday, it was Chester's first home win since December, ending a 16-game winless run at Bumpers Lane.
