Dunfermline striker Declan McManus
Dunfermline striker Declan McManus got the Pars' second goal

Dunfermline remain top of the Championship after they strolled to victory over Brechin City.

Goals from Lee Ashcroft, Declan McManus and Nicky Clark made it six wins from seven and left Brechin still searching for their first victory.

They took the lead when Kallum Higginbotham's corner was not dealt with and Ashcroft slotted home.

McManus headed in Ryan Williamson's cross to make it 2-0 and Clark tapped in another Williamson cross.

Dunfermline could have found themselves behind early on.

Brechin forced Sean Murdoch into a double save with a parry from Jordan Sinclair, then blocked Paul McLean's follow up with his feet before Kalvin Orsi headed over the Pars bar.

The Pars went close with Brechin keeper Graeme Smith saving a Callum Morris header then McManus and Clark having their efforts blocked.

Ryan McGeever blocked a Morris header at the post as the visitors continued to push for the opener.

And Ashcroft fired the Pars in front when he blasted home a low shot from 14 yards from Higginbotham's corner.

Orsi beat two men but his low shot was well saved by Murdoch as Brechin battled back.

Clark then flashed a header wide and Higginbotham clipped an effort past the post as the Pars maintained the pressure.

Nat Wedderburn headed just wide for Dunfermline then Brechin's Connor McLennan forced a low save from Sean Murdoch in the Pars goal.

McManus powered in a header in 55 minutes from Williamson's cross from eight yards out to make it 2-0 to the visitors.

Clark had an easy tap in for the Pars third goal when Smith failed to catch a cross from the right as the Pars kept the boot on the home side's throat and ran out deserved winners.

Post-match reaction

Dunfermline manager Allan Johnston: "We knew it was going to be difficult coming here, they're desperate for a result. Sean Murdoch throughout the game had a couple of good saves but overall we were deserved winners. We've got a lot of players who can score in our team. We'll always create chances.

"It's not always going to go your way, the game's not always going to be pretty. You've got do the basics well. I don't think we hit top form, there's more to come, but it's good when you don't play at top form and score three goals.

"There's a long way to go, some massive games coming up. The club's going in the right direction, and we've got to make sure we keep the momentum going."
