When I was young the men enjoyed escaping for a few hours to a Xmas day or Boxing day game which had a different atmosphere from the normal Saturday games, and the women were happy to get rid of them. Different times.
Interesting that Sky and the Premier say the clubs make a lot from the broadcasting of matches so should have no complaints. What's clear is that the EPL has no respect for fans who in the end pay for this. There shoud be no games on Christmas Eve, especially ones that would involve long distance travel afterwards. I agree with those who say boycott the game and watch it at Anfield and Newcastle.
132. Yeahbaby Feel sorry for the season ticket holders who feel obliged to go to the games, ===What?!! OMG!!Feel "obliged" to go to the games?!How about don't go and feel "obliged" to be with friends and family?
3.59 kick off than i guess, i think its high times fans started boycotting some of these fixtures as opposed to feeling obliged to turn up out of some misguided loyalty, your loyalty should be to wife and kids. an empty stadium would no doubt have a greater impact on the 'foreign market' than the match shown at the right time
Feel sorry for the season ticket holders who feel obliged to go to the games, and the staunch away supporters. Superb fans from all clubs who are always been inconvenienced. As an arm chair fan it's better than watching another drab XMAS movie
I think there needs to be a new law introduced where teams cannot play more than one competitive fixture in 72 hours.. I don't have a problem with playing on Xmas eve (if its on a Saturday at 3pm) but I do have a problem with the Premier League trying to bleed every pound they can out of the game to benefit the 'foreign market' whilst ignoring the bread and butter British public.
I agree with the majority of posts here. Although I remember as a lad living in NW London, Hendon would play Wealdstone on Christmas Day, and draw relatively large crowds. It's time TV was put in it's place. How about giving time for our teams playing in Europe to prepare for their matches.
There should be no fixtures on Christmas Eve. It does not matter as to which day of the week it falls upon. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day should be off limits. Some of the fixture scheduling for Boxing Day should also be reviewed. Fulham who are away for the fifth successive Boxing Day face a to Cardiff. Yes its a repeat of 1979 but back then there was a train service.
They'll play when their paymasters tell them to play - zero consideration will be given to the fans. That's what happens when you take the gold!
its a pity they have to play on any day...it isnt an english league its a foreign league..I prefer watching the non league , scottish and the sunday morning lads...thats real football not this diving around time wasting rubbish..
Corporate greed, premiership cowardice paid for by idiotic fans. No wonder TV companies laugh every time there’s an objection.
If Liverpool and Newcastle declined their ticket allocation and showed the games on TV at Anfield and SJP free to season ticket holders (away deals if they have them as well) and heavily discounted for kids they would make a point, buy a window for parents wrapping presents and probably make as much money. Wouldn't be detrimental to Arsenal or West Ham as no doubt they could sell the tickets
There’s a very simple way to fix this but most football fans aren’t clever enough to figure out that if they just don’t go to the match this doesn’t affect them. Does anyone complaining seriously think the clubs and PL would even countenance this if they thought they wouldn’t sell tickets or TV views?
If people are stupid enough to continue going to matches, buying the merchandise and paying extortionate sums in pay TV contracts this will continue too!You all know what to do to stop it but will you?
Why are they even playing on Christmas eve?Football was always for Boxing day.Money ruining the game yet again?
the PL statement only states no fixture from 4pm onwards so its a 3pm or 3:30pm KO time leaving travelling fans stranded on Xmas Eve / Day with little transport service available on XmasEve eveningThis just how much contempt the PL has for travelling fans
