So close. Everyone seems to forget that Scotland would've had a two leg playoff to play if they had been 'successful'. The Scotland team is a product of a poor league structure, not the quality of management. Good players are playing the equivalent of reserve teams week in week out.
Someone who's had no background to Rangers or Celtic so they can't get slated for picking one or others players over the other. (Just a thought)
What? Strachan has left? How will we ever cope? Well take it easy wee man, good luck in your next big position at an English lower league team, you'll feel right at home there, since you'll have worked with that superior calibre of player before.
Oh dear ! The alternatives being trotted out sound like a car crash waiting to happen ! Mcleish and Moyes ? Really ! They just happen to be available - sorry, looking for a Job !Strachan laid solid foundations within the current squad and are much better now than when he took over so why jeopardise all of the good work ?
Strachan did have to go, I'm afraid. Now the "57 old farts" of the SFA need to go as well. We need a fresh start but more has to be done to recruit home-grown talent. If Iceland can make the finals why can't we do? No excuse. But right now we don't have a superstar in our team and the only way we can get one is to restructure our recruitment of players at grassroots level.
Cheers to the wee man. If we'd held on against England things would be very different, so it was a fine line in that respect. Like he said, that would have been "the wan", referencing a comparison to his biggest night in the game v Real Madrid in 83. But we didn't hold on, and we didn't qualify, so time to go. Yogi Hughes for the Scotland job is the obvious choice.
Strachan was fortunate that he had a relatively easy group to qualify from but still came up short due to a poor start. Scotland was far more entertaining to watch, had more belief and actually attacked under Strachan than the previous 2 to 3 managers. At least he didn't select a team with no forwards.
Scott Brown for player manager. Excellent idea. This out the box thinking is just what we need.
OK the genetics comment was controversialBut Strachan was OKGood luck Scotland in finding a better manager
Strachan was okay so not sure why they let him go, do they think they can better. This might work out okay for us though - he a massive improvement over Gareth Southgate so I hope the FA will consider this as a viable option.
But Big Sam can do the job, no one else mentioned here has any chance of improving Scottish football.
He left his job "by mutual consent".That means that he was sacked.
Liked Strachan, would have given him another shot at qualifying. Would consider Lennon as a decent replacement. He understands Scottish football, can nurture a team spirit and can get a performance out of a team when it counts.
Surely if Strachan has failed to deliver by not reaching Euros or World Cup finals we now have to look at Stuart Regans position. Has he not also failed to deliver ?????
