Chester 3-2 Barrow

Lucas Dawson smashed a stunning 94th-minute winner as Chester climbed out of the National League bottom four with victory over fellow strugglers Barrow.

Chester looked untroubled for most of the first half after sauntering into a two-goal lead inside 25 minutes.

Dawson sent Jordan Archer clear down the inside-right channel to score on his debut after just 11 minutes, the new signing from Stourbridge drilling home a low, angled right-foot shot.

Fellow new signing Reece Hall-Johnson then also scored his first goal for the club, on only his second start, when he volleyed home superbly from the edge of the box.

There could have been other goals for the hosts, most notably when Ryan Astles' header was blocked on the line in a scramble. But instead they went down the tunnel all square after Adi Yussuf and Byron Harrison both punished sloppy defending in the space of two minutes of first-half injury time.

After a pulsating second half, in which chances came freely at either end, Chester then snatched it deep into injury time when midfielder Dawson capped a frantic assault on the Barrow goal by drilling home a 25-yard right-foot screamer.

It prompted his manager Marcus Bignot to gallop down the touchline Antonio Conte-style to celebrate with a mob of home fans, prompting an angry exchange with Barrow manager Neil Hornby, but he escaped with a warning from referee Joe Johnson.

Chester's victory, their second since Bignot took charge, and only their second at home in 2017, was their first against Barrow since April 1971.
