Aston Villa 2-0 Ipswich Town

Albert Adomah
Albert Adomah has scored 10 goals from 14 shots on target in the Championship this season

In-form winger Albert Adomah scored twice to help Aston Villa brush past Ipswich Town for their third consecutive Championship victory.

Joe Garner had a goal disallowed for the visitors before Adomah poked in the opener from Glenn Whelan's header.

Ipswich threatened from set-pieces, with Adam Webster and Garner heading over from Martyn Waghorn corners.

But Villa sealed the points when Robert Snodgrass found Adomah, who coolly slotted his fifth goal in three games.

The Ghana international has scored 11 goals in all competitions this season, to help Steve Bruce's side move six points clear of seventh-placed Middlesbrough.

Ipswich, who have won just once in five matches, are now six points adrift of the play-off spots.

Mick McCarthy's side looked to have gone ahead early on but referee Tony Harrington gave a foul against Garner when he fired home after keeper Sam Johnstone had dropped the ball.

Australia international midfielder Mile Jedinak, making only his second start of the season for the hosts, was forced off after just 26 minutes with a shoulder injury.

The Tractor Boys had defender Jonas Knudsen back from suspension but they have now failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last 17 away league games - since winning 1-0 at Villa Park in February.

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce:

"Albert has worked hard and got his reward from working on the left. He looks so comfortable coming in on his right foot and running across the line.

"He is a big threat and he has now scored 11 goals, which is a wonderful return and long may it continue.

"There is no reason why he cannot set his sights to go and get another 10 in this part of the season."

Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy:

"We were the best team before the goal. Had we scored the first goal the place would have been very quiet.

"t was actually until the opening goal. But Villa are efficient, particularly when they get ahead. They make it very difficult to play against.

"We need to be more ruthless but, when you get disappointments on the pitch, it is hard to contend with."
