Macclesfield Town 4-1 Wrexham

Scott Wilson's hat-trick helped send Macclesfield to the top of the National League in Saturday's lunchtime kick off that was disrupted by snow.

Tyrone Marsh's pass gave Wilson the chance to beat the offside trap and fire his angled shot into the net.

Wrexham were rewarded when Scott Boden met Manny Smith's cross to head in.

Wilson put the Silkmen back in front from close range and then pounced on goalkeeper Chris Dunn's block and Danny Whitehead fired in the fourth.

After tempers flared on the sideline midway through the second period, the hosts' substitute goalkeeper Sam Ramsbottom was yellow carded for impeding Kevin Roberts' attempt to retrieve the ball.

Local fans turned up from 06:00 GMT to clear snow to ensure the game went ahead.

But the pitch was again covered in white in the first half before it thawed only for snow to fall heavily again as the game wore on.

Clearing the lines as play was suspended led to eight minutes of added time as Macclesfield condemned Wrexham - who dropped to third - to their heaviest defeat of 2017-18.

Sutton United later lost 4-1 at Leyton Orient, keeping the Silkmen top.

Wrexham boss Dean Keates told BBC Radio Wales: "It was not good enough.

"We were on top and the second goal's come against the run of play.

"They were by far the better team in the first half, but we got a reaction in the second half and got ourselves right back into the game, but we were naïve in the last 15-20 minutes."
