Highlights: Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 Carlisle United

Sheffield Wednesday scored a goal in each half as they beat Carlisle United in their FA Cup third-round replay to seal a tie against Reading.

Carlisle had an early chance but Frederik Nielsen's fine challenge blocked Richie Bennett's shot.

The hosts broke the deadlock when Marco Matias fired into the net from close range past visiting keeper Jack Bonham.

Atdhe Nuhiu doubled the Owls' advantage when he latched on to Matias' through ball and coolly side-footed home.

On a snowy night in South Yorkshire, Wednesday's victory against Carlisle was their first FA Cup replay win since January 2014 when they beat Macclesfield Town 4-1.

The Owls, who won for the first time under new manager Jos Luhukay, now welcome Championship rivals Reading to Hillsborough in the fourth round on 27 January after the Royals beat Stevenage 3-0 in their replay.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay: "We are happy that we are in the next round. We have worked hard today, the team gave a good performance in the 90 minutes.

"In the first half we had two, three or four good chances.

"The players had a good focus. I am happy with both strikers scoring, it is important for both that they have more confidence.

"The whole team over 90 minutes played well and we are in the next round."

Carlisle boss Keith Curle: "I thought we competed very well in the first half, had a few opportunities around their 18-yard box, but in a cup competition, we needed to be clinical and take those chances.

"Our football was Championship quality, our defending was League Two.

"Goals change games, if you take those opportunities it could be a proper cup tie.

"You have to take them against Championship teams but we didn't and we have paid the price."
