Gateshead 0-0 Wrexham

Wrexham remain third in the National League after a stalemate at Gateshead.

Chris Holroyd came closest to breaking through for the visitors.

The striker had a penalty claim dismissed for straying offside, had a shot well saved by James Montgomery and then headed just wide from a fine James Jennings cross.

Gateshead's best chance fell to Paddy McLaughlin, who seized on a bobbling ball in the area but was unable to beat Chris Dunn in the Wrexham goal.

Wrexham manager Dean Keates told BBC Radio Wales: "It was the best we've started a game for a long time, to be honest - the first 15 minutes we were absolutely all over them.

"We kind of let them back into it after that, but overall Dunny [Chris Dunn] has only had one save to make really.

"They had a lot of sustained pressure, balls coming in, but defensively we were organised, disciplined and nine times out of 10 we won the first contact on the ball."
