Lewis Milne scored twice - his seventh in three games - as Montrose returned to the top of Scotttish League Two and added to Cowdenbeath's relegation woes.
Milne's deflected strike gave the visitors a half-time lead, with Martin Rennie also going close with a header.
Rennie's close-range tap-in before a trademark free-kick from Milne put the result firmly beyond doubt.
It lifts Montrose three points clear of Peterhead as the top two continue their head-to-head with three games left.
Cowden, who won a penalty shoot-out last season against Lowland League winners East Kilbride, look destined for another play-off to retain their place in the Scottish Professional Football League.
The Blue Brazil remain seven points behind Berwick Rangers, who have two games in hand, and Edinburgh City.
